From Richard Lord,
The Maestro of Magic
Wow. How did we get here? Last thing I knew, I was a kid who hated practicing and used magic as a social crutch and now I’ve performed for some of the biggest names in the world? Toured all over the country?? Played THREE VEGAS SHOWS??!?!? Yeah, this is really weird.
I grew up in Yakima, Washington and always dreamed of a life on stage. As a kid, I took piano lessons or rather, I should more accurately state that my mom forced me into piano lessons. A couple of years later, I received an old magic book and was immediately hooked! Never did I expect that either one of these would become a career.
Throughout junior high and high school, magic was how I talked to people. I was the “magic kid” at school. Looking back, I was probably also the weird kid, but hey – good with the bad, right? After graduating high school, I attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. There I studied music and planned a career in that field.
In 2020, the world turned around as we were all locked inside for what was supposed to be a two-week lockdown. My best friend at the time, Ace, moved in with me as the pandemic wore on, and during this time we talked about her background as a theatre director. Our covid project became putting together a magic show with her as the director and myself as the performer. Several months in, we realized this little project meant a little more to us than we initially intended; we let the lease on our apartment expire and moved to Las Vegas, the world capitol of magic!
Two weeks after moving here, I booked my first magic gig in Las Vegas and haven’t looked back since! Of course, a few things have certainly changed! The show has gotten a lot better. I’ve added concert piano to the stage show. And most importantly, that best friend turned director? In May of 2025, I asked her to marry me! (Of course she said yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be mentioning it here!)
Today I perform magic all over Las Vegas and anywhere in the United States. Whether it’s an intimate cocktail hour with closeup magic, a keynote presentation at a corporate dinner, drawing in attendees at a trade show booth, or traveling the country performing my 90-minute evening show, Richard Lord’s Music and Magic, it is truly a delight and a privilege sharing a wonderful evening with people whoever and wherever they may be!
